Answer

Which wallet should I use to launch a coin?

Short answer

Any self-custody Solana wallet works — Phantom, Solflare and Backpack are the three most used — because the launch transaction must be signed by a wallet whose keys you hold yourself.

Three brass keys of different sizes lie on dark slate next to a folded cloth.

Any wallet you control will do

The launchpad does not care which brand of wallet you use. It builds a CreateV2 transaction and asks your wallet to sign it. Phantom, Solflare and Backpack are the three most common choices on Solana, and all three can sign, so the decision comes down to which one you are confident recovering from a paper backup and which one shows you clearly what you are approving.

A measured mainnet launch cost 0.01495 SOL in total: 0.0144428 SOL of refundable account deposits and 0.00051 SOL of network fee. Pump.fun charges no platform fee to create a coin, so there is no upsell waiting at the last screen. Leave a little extra SOL for the first buy and for fees, which are charged even when a transaction fails.

  • Phantom — the most widely used, browser and mobile, simple signing prompts.
  • Solflare — strong on staking and hardware wallet pairing.
  • Backpack — desktop-first, popular with more technical users.
  • Whichever you pick, install it from the official site, not from a link in a chat.

Why the wallet has to be yours

At creation the mint, freeze and update authorities are all null. Supply is fixed and the name, ticker and image cannot be changed afterwards. That is good for buyers, and it also means the only thing tying you to the coin is the wallet that signed the launch: creator fees accrue in two vaults, and each one needs its own collect instruction signed by that same wallet.

So the wallet is not a login, it is the deed. If you launch from a wallet you cannot recover, the fee claims stay with whoever can sign for it. Write the seed phrase on paper, store it offline, and never type it into a website, a browser extension prompt or a chat window — no launch flow on any launchpad asks for it.

  • Use a wallet you created yourself, not one somebody set up for you.
  • Keep the seed phrase offline; the only thing a site should ever request is a signature.
  • Consider a hardware wallet for the launching wallet if you expect to collect fees over months.

Related questions

Do I need a different wallet for each coin?

No. One wallet can sign as many launches as you like, though many creators use a fresh wallet per coin so fee claims and holder history stay separate.

Can I launch from a wallet on my phone?

Yes. All three wallets have mobile apps and can sign the launch transaction from the browser built into the app.

What if my wallet does not connect to the launch site?

Open the launchpad inside the wallet's own browser, or connect the extension on a desktop. If any prompt asks for your seed phrase, close the tab.

Where to go next

If the brand and the page are what is stopping you

Mint a Brand draws the icon, banner and stickers, builds the token site on its own subdomain and prepares the launch for your wallet to sign, for $30. Your wallet pays the network fee and is the creator of record.
