Answer
How much should a memecoin logo cost?
A generated icon costs nothing to a few dollars and a designer costs more, but the only number that matters is whether it still reads at 48 pixels, because the image is immutable after launch.
The constraint nobody mentions until it is too late
On a pump.fun launch the name, ticker and image are immutable. There is no edit button, and the authorities are null at creation, so there is no upgrade path either. Whatever you upload is what the coin wears for as long as it exists — on the launchpad page, in DEX Screener's feed, in every screenshot anyone ever takes.
That makes the logo a one-shot decision. It is worth more care than the price suggests, and considerably more care than most people give it at 2am on launch night.
Compare that with the parts of the launch you can revisit: copy, channel posts, even the coin's description can be rewritten. The icon cannot, which is why it deserves the scrutiny normally reserved for things you cannot take back.
- Name, ticker and image are all permanent
- No authority exists to change metadata later
- A bad icon follows the coin into every listing
Design for 48 pixels
Feeds render icons small — a 48-pixel thumbnail is realistic, and on some surfaces smaller still. At that size a detailed illustration becomes a smudge. What survives is a single strong silhouette, two or three colours maximum, and a shape that is identifiable without detail.
Test it before you commit: shrink your file to 48x48 and look at it on a phone. If you cannot tell what it is, neither can anyone scrolling.
A useful shortcut is to draw the idea in two colours first and add nothing until it is unmistakable. Most icons that fail at thumbnail size were never legible at full size either; the shrinking only makes the problem obvious.
- One subject, centred, filling most of the frame
- Two or three flat colours; avoid gradients and fine line work
- High contrast against both light and dark backgrounds
- No text — a ticker in the image is illegible at thumbnail size and ages badly
What things cost
A generated image from a diffusion model costs nothing beyond the compute, or a few dollars on a paid service. A human designer will charge more, and for a single icon the range is wide enough that the useful question is what you get: a vector source, a few sizes exported, and someone who will tell you the concept is weak.
For scale, the launch itself costs 0.01495 SOL — 0.0144428 SOL of refundable deposits plus 0.00051 SOL fee — about $1.40 at about $93.96 per SOL. A logo that costs more than the launch is not automatically wrong, but it should be a deliberate choice rather than a default.
- Generated: free to a few dollars
- Designer: more, and worth it if you get source files and a real opinion
- Third-party launch tools charge 0.05 to 0.5 SOL plus add-ons — more than the logo will cost
Related questions
Can I change my logo after launch?
No. On a pump.fun launch the image is immutable and the authorities are null at creation, so there is no way to update it.
What size should I upload?
Square, ideally 512x512, as a PNG or JPG. Check that it still reads when shrunk to 48 pixels.
Is a paid designer worth it?
For a single icon, only if you get source files and an honest critique. The technical requirements are simple enough that a careful generated image can meet them.

If the brand and the page are what is stopping you
Mint a Brand draws the icon, banner and stickers, builds the token site on its own subdomain and prepares the launch for your wallet to sign, for $30. Your wallet pays the network fee and is the creator of record.
